The 2025 GL Season has been a season for the books. For a league in it’s infancy, it’s been a year that feels substantial. Little under 2 years ago we witnessed Drew Kittleson roll a putt across the 18th green in front of a budding crowd that found the bottom of the cup. The crowd which at the time felt monumental erupted in pure enthusiasm as Lanco anxiously waited to take the stage. The putt not only secured the first Grass League title for the Minnesota Muskies, but set a litany of items into motion. Kittleson’s emphatic expression towards the heavens was indeed symbolic of the things to come.
Fast forward to today, the Grass League has a much different feeling to it. What began on Bleacher Report and TBS, the 2025 GL Championship is set to be broadcasted live on the gold standard of golf… The Golf Channel. GL players have elevated the league to new heights not only because of their performance, but because of what they have sacrificed. Slogans like “High Stakes” or “if you can make it, we’d love to have you” carry the obvious connotations, but for those that have experienced it carry much deeper meaning.
All of that momentum has weathered the storm and presents itself at the 2025 GL Championship – a tournament that will be remembered forever. A tournament that will deliver a list of true “firsts”for the Grass League.
*The first PGA Tour Winner to suit up for a Grass League event (Charlie Beljan | Scottsdale Strikers)
*The first US Am Winner and US Am Public Links champion (Colt Knost | Hollywood Hitters)
*The first brother – sister pairing… who might even win the whole thing (Ryan Ruffels, Gabriela Ruffels | Los Angeles Roses)
*The first Season-Long Race leader entering Championship Week (San Diego Munis sit atop the list at the time of this writing)
*The first live broadcast on linear television
What began as an idea is now a living organism. The Grass League represents much more than a lighted par-3 golf league. It represents the game’s oldest traditions refracted through a lens tailored for today’s audience.
Under the lights that is… to create one of golfs grandest of stages.
THE STAGE:
The 2025 GL Championship determines the Season-Long Points Race Winner. The title – while separate from the single-tournament champion – comes with it’s own rewards. The Season Long Points Race Champion earns the lion’s share of the Grass League revenue pool. For teams orignally that were purchased for $160,000, the payout is a serious return.
As for the tournament itself (low 2-person team format), winning the GL Championship has the potential to change the course of a golfer’s career.
As for the entertainment, the progression has been almost mind-boggling. The Grass League started with Easton Corbin and LANCO back in the spring of 2024. Since then, the league has brought in Bryce Vine and Quinn XCII, and is now set to host a lineup featuring Midland and BigXthaPlug.
The things that last the longest often come from humble beginnings. It’s obvious now that the Grass League wasn’t built like a firework or a blip on the radar. Rather, it’s like a candle and its wick—steady, intentional, built to burn for a long time. Built to last 100 years… and it’s starting to feel exactly like that.
It’s the 2025 GL Championship from Grass Clippings Rolling Hills.
