The 2024 Troon Access GL Championship Presented by GolfNow was nothing short of electric. 44 2-person teams, representing 11 franchises, met in Tempe for a 36 hole scramble showdown. With more than 2500 spectators packing hospitality tents and following golfers throughout the course.
After 18 holes, 4 teams sat tied atop the leaderboard, with 18 others within 2 strokes. This left the top spot entirely up for grabs in Friday’s round.
On the final hole of regulation, Tampa Bay Swamp Dawgs duo Billy Hanes and Dan Buchner tied the clubhouse leaders Michigan Auto Aces Alison Lee and Trey Kidd with a birdie to force a sudden death playoff.
The two 2-somes returned to the 18th tee and hit their tee shots. The Auto Ace duo stuck one to 9 feet, while the Swamp Dawgs managed to find the back of the green some 45 feet away. After a Buchner miss, Hanes drained his birdie attempt in front of a feverish 18th gallery to pressure Lee and Kidd, who ultimately missed their putts resulting in the Swamp Dawgs securing the GL Championship title.
